Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All of my students live in a low socioeconomic part of Houston, Texas. They are not able to visit certain places in the city and most of them do not have computers in their home. 98% of them are on free lunch. The majority of my students are reading on a first or second grade level. Some of my students depend on a program at the school that give the students a bag of food on Friday for the weekend because they do not have any food at their homes. They are a good group of kids, but they have a lot of challenges in their lives and then they have to come to school and concentrate on learning what is being taught to them.
I am a teacher who will do anything for my students because I see the potential in each and every one of them and I want them to see what I see in them.
I try to motivate them because I know when they go home there are things there that a child should never have to face. I love my students and that is why I'm on Donors Choose.
My Project
My students will be using the Chromebooks for research papers, writing biographies and autobiographies. They will also use them for reading during stations and use them for other programs we have at the school.
My students haven't had laptops for the last four years and therefore it is really difficult to do any thing when it comes to technology.
My school does not have the funds to buy laptops for every classroom and that is why I haven't been able to use technology in my classroom.
If push comes to shove we would have to go to the library to use the old computers in there and sometimes they are not working so we go without. I think every classroom should have the latest technology so that the students can move into the 21st century.
