My students need a simple computer in order write a senior thesis.

According to historian John Henrik Clarke, "the purpose of proper education is to prepare the student to be a responsible handler of power. Any other type of education is a waste of time." Our seniors will be grappling with conditioned black powerlessness in the America's culture and institutions.
Our school is an Afro-centric high school meaning that we strive to provide our kids with relevant curriculum that pertains to their lives as well as upholds their cultural history.
Too often the African-Americans students fail to capture the meaningful and fruitful history of Africans that affirms their identity and cultural heritage. We are a public charter school with a 100% African American student population. Our students come from Detroit neighborhood. This area is one of the hardest hit areas in Detroit's fall from grace. 100% of our children are free or reduced lunch students.
Our senior class is about to engage in a rigorous three months of research, writing, and revision. For most, if not all of the seniors, this is the largest, most daunting project they will have ever attempted. The magnitude and difficultly of the task is frightful and our seniors will inevitably hit bumps in the road on their way towards 7 portfolio essays that will create their senior thesis. This project demands that each student has the ability to access online sources and word processing capabilities. As it stands now, our class currently has 12 laptops. The senior class is now 13 students. In order to have 1-to-1 technology capabilities for their senior thesis project, this project stands to supply our classroom with a Chromebook.
This project will provide a well-running, quick Chromebook to seniors preparing for their next educational steps.
It provides the technological services to students who will be learning online research skills, proper word formatting, and other skills that can be used for years to come.
