My school is located in an urban area of Los Angeles. We are a diverse student body that speaks various languages and comes from a wide variety of cultures. Truly, our school is a melting pot centered around academic and social development. My students are fifth-graders who come from all corners of the globe.
We are literally the United Nations within one classroom.
My students have varied interests and strengths including writing, acting, gaming, technology, design, and sports.
My 5th graders are intrinsically motivated to grow and work hard to meet academic and social expectations they make for themselves. They are kind individuals, respectful of various viewpoints, and are willing to learn from their mistakes.
My Project
Teaching is a rewarding yet difficult job. Not only does it involve managing 30 ten year-olds, but it also means planning engaging activities, communicating with parents on a daily basis, and also taking workshops and seminars to facilitate my own professional development.
In order to facilitate my own learning to best teach my students, I am requesting a Chromebook laptop that mirrors the capabilities of my students' computers.
I will take this Chromebook with me to professional development classes, where I will be able to use it as a learning tool for myself. I will be able to interact with my adult classmates on online forums, complete homework assignments (for myself), and read literature to improve my own teaching pedagogy.
This way, I can apply what I am learning about technology directly to my teaching practice, and gain instant feedback. No longer will I need to guess about how new technology practices are being put into place, but rather I can create a new learning environment and try it out directly.
Thank you for taking the time to support my students and their learning.
