My students are hardworking, motivated, future leaders who love technology. Their school is diverse with many different economic backgrounds. Though the building is newer, the technology is lacking due to budget cuts. For many, my classroom is the only time they get to play and learn using technology.
My students are eager learners who need the tools that technology provides to stay engaged.
Our district has implemented Google Classroom to ensure our students are prepared for college. As a result, many students have encountered problems with accessing their accounts to complete assignments due to the lack of available and reliable technology. As of now, generous donors from DonorsChoose.org have provided my students with several Chromebooks. However, there is a waiting list for students to access those Chromebooks. It leads to frustration for those who are not able to get one and complete the work. My students need the tools to achieve in all areas academically without frustration and to help them stay engaged.
My Project
Our school created Google Doc accounts for every student which makes the student computers available in high demand before and after school. The demand has been so high that I have opened my class during my lunch for any student in need of technology access. As of now, I have several Chromebooks available because generous donors have provided them for my students. However, I have over 100 students who are in need of access to this technology and who prefer the Chromebooks to a computer. It is my ultimate goal to become a 1:1 classroom with Chromebooks. In addition, our current computer lab is outdated and does not house enough computers for each student. The ones that do work are not reliable, crash often, and are not up-to-date for certain educational programs to work. Each Chromebook that I am able to get for my students is one less student that has to wait for a computer and each Chromebook leads to my students becoming 1:1 with technology while in my classroom.

The Chromebook will help my students complete writing, discussion questions, research, and many other tools designed for the academic success by allowing access to their Google accounts. The Chromebook will ease the waiting list in the mornings and after school for students needing it to complete the necessary work.
