Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach middle school mathematics to 100 students in a Title I school. They are in seventh grade and so most come from bilingual homes. Living in Chicago, most of my students have faced a variety of hardships and have been through things that no child should ever have to deal with. However, that being said, my students come in every day ready to work and eager to learn. We have maintain a 1+ status for three years and this is due to the students as well as dedicated parents. At Burbank we cultivate a zeal for learning and know the power of knowledge.
My seventh graders are dedicated and amazing students and deserve the best education possible.
My students face so many struggles outside the classroom that make it extremely hard for them to focus when they are in the classroom. I cannot control what they have to deal with on the outside of these four walls, however, I can certainly control their experience within my classroom. I strive to get every student to see their potential and work towards their future goals.
My Project
The students in my classroom have a wide range of math abilities. I have students that are leaning basic math skills to those that are practicing trigonometry. I teach the same lesson but then I differentiate the lesson to reach a variety of levels. I want to make sure every child meets their potential. At our school our administration tries to help each classroom but funds are very limited, the two computers that I have in my classroom do not always work.
Accessing technology and learning website will challenge my students and give also additional support for those student that need more practice.
The Chromebooks will help meet the needs of many students and we will be able to access leaning websites that will sharpen their math and language arts skills. We will also be able to use Chromebook in our math and language arts classroom and create storybooks, short leaning video, review terminology and so much more.
