Second grade is a wonderful year of discovery and learning. Each year, demands are being placed on children to forfeit their discovery time and focus solely on educational demands. My goal is to create an atmosphere in which students can learn and discover while using technology to tap into their creativity and knowledge.
My students need a Chromebook to use as a digital resource to research concepts and apply their knowledge in creative ways to present to the classroom.
I have the best second-grade students at our rural Title 1 school, located near a large Air Force Base. My classroom includes military as well as civilian students, who come to school excited about learning and willing to work hard. Unfortunately, like all children, they have issues that often interfere with their ability to focus and learn. Due to this, I am constantly seeking ideas to help them learn essential objectives while addressing their various needs. I have students who receive Special Education services for learning disabilities and speech as well as English as a Second Language Learners. I also have students diagnosed with ADHD and other health concerns, creating an interesting mix of social skill needs to be addressed daily.
My Project
At my school, the second-grade team of teachers have formed homogeneous groups to meet the learning needs of all our students. We do this through a variety of methods to ensure that all students are learning at the rate and in the learning style that best meets their needs. One Chromebook will serve students from six classes.
I need a Chromebook so that small, cooperative groups can delve deep into learning objectives and then publish their knowledge in a variety of ways.
Students will watch interactive videos to help in their understanding of topics and will read online literature to strengthen their comprehension.
