Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am currently in a master's program for educational technology. In my class, I try to teach and instill those 21st Century Skills that my students will carry and help them for the rest of their lives. I teach blogging and video presentations, skills they will use in high school and beyond.
My class is made up of low income students.
Most of my students are second language learners that are eager to improve their language, reading, and technical skills. My class is a reflection of our school. It is a school that has a very dedicated staff that is not only teaching academics, but teaching those life skills that students will carry on with them for the rest of their lives.
My Project
Currently in my class, we have very limited technology. We try to apply the skills being taught, but not all students can log on to certain sites or programs because of the lack of technology. A student will usually have a chance to go on a computer once or twice a week to blog, or create a video to teach students a concept they have learned. With these Chromebooks, students will be able to go online on a consistent basis and share what they are learning in class and share their opinions by writing in their blogs.
I believe this project will make a big difference in my students' lives.
Some of my students go home and do not have the technology or Internet access they need to further their academics and enhance what they are learning in school. By using these Chromebooks, students will have the opportunity to apply the skills they are learning and open the door to another world that is out there.
