My fifth graders represent the beauty that comes with living in Oakland, California. Fifth grade is such an amazing year because it means the end of elementary school and provides a glimpse into their futures. I am excited to see where this year will take us and to watch the growth that each child will accomplish. I want to make sure that each child is equipped and ready to be as successful as they can be throughout their fifth grade year and beyond.
Teaching in Oakland means teaching students from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
One blessing that makes such a difference in a student's life is the sense of community and importance that they have at school. I hope to help students thrive and build on these feelings throughout the year. Some of the challenges that my students face is that lack of access to resources and opportunities as a result of educational funding.
My Project
As we prepare students for career and college readiness, Chromebooks are one of the tools that help prepare students for their futures. Having a set of Chromebooks in our classroom allows for students to engage with materials in a quick and easy way.
Technology in the classroom empowers students and teaches them responsibility and computer literacy.
So much of the information that we access is now online, making it imperative that students learn how to access the information safely and effectively. Not only will these Chromebooks be used to access information online, but they will also be used to publish student writing, research projects, and complete group work.
