This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Remember the pressure of the "state tests"? Remember the frustration of trying to type before you learned the keys? My students are experiencing both of those stressors combined. This year 5th graders are to take the state test, which will have constructed responses in math and English, online.
Our county has a higher percentage of individuals living below the poverty level than the state does.
Therefore, our school system does not have the funds to purchase enough technology. My students are very bright and very creative but need technology in the classroom every day.
My Project
My students will use this Chromebook to practice their typing skills while answering constructed response math questions. This will help prepare them for the format of the state test. Students will take turns using this second Chromebook until I am able to get more funded. (Thank you to those who helped fund the first one!)
The donation of Chromebooks will relieve some of the stress on my students worried about how to type the constructed response explanations on the math test.
If you have practiced the procedures of doing something, it is much less stressful. This second Chromebook will allow students more time using technology. It will also allow for other technology based instruction.
