Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful tool to change the world." This thought clings in my mind as I watch my kindergarten students working every day. My school encompasses all walks of life. I have homeless students as well as wealthy students.
My students are mini rays of sunshine.
They illustrate pictures of themselves with large hearts and warm smiles. The economy has hit our school hard, and I am seeing more students on the poverty level.
Our school is an oasis for them. Their troubles are left at the door and we, as teachers, do everything we can to lift them academically. We are trying to teach that education is the one thing that cannot be taken from you.
My Project
My students will increase their technological literacy by having extra Chromebooks in the classroom. I will be able to monitor their daily academic progress in the areas of reading and math by using specialized programs. I will focus on reading comprehension and phonemic awareness, as I am teaching on the kindergarten level.
These Chromebooks could make every difference in the world to my students who do not have access to technology at home.
All of our standardized assessments are now computer-based, and I must find a way to bridge that gap for my lower-economic students.
