My students need an SAB arrangement of "Merry Christmas, Darling" for the Winter Concert, the Essential Musicianship choral method books, and Vocal Aerobics for Today's Singers DVD.
My students are excited about making music. For many of them, school music programs are their only exposure to music from different cultures, places, and time periods.
Despite the challenges that many of my students face, the kids have a need for the art and power of music in their lives.
I believe that I should provide my students with as many opportunities as I can, because music enriches their lives in a way that cannot be put into words.
My Project
My students will be able to use these resources to develop as young musicians. The arrangement of "Merry Christmas, Darling" would be great to sing at our Winter Concert this upcoming winter season and is voiced perfectly for a group like mine. The choral curriculum book will be an excellent way to help out my younger/beginner singers with their music fundamentals, and I would definitely use these lessons as bell ringers in the classroom. The vocal aerobics DVD would be a helpful tool to reinforce my teaching in a visual way in order to allow me to reach more students.
It is important that students have multiple methods in which to learn a musical concept, and I feel it is my responsibility to provide them with as many opportunities to grow as possible.
Students who are involved in music learn how to not only be disciplined musicians, but they learn to be good citizens. They learn the qualities of teamwork, tolerance, persistence, and dedication. While it may seem that singing is just a fun activity for some individuals, for many of my students, it is their passion.
