Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn, to be good students and to make their families proud. Many of these kids are learning English as a second or even as a third language. Their families all work hard to provide for them, but many still struggle to cover basic needs such as housing, food and clothing. Students frequently come to school hungry and tired due to little resources in the home such as breakfast or a bed to sleep on. Many basic school supplies such as folders or gym shoes are not in the budget for our families.
Learning to read and write is challenging for many kids, but when English is new to you and resources are a struggle, it becomes even harder.

My Project
Our students have been in school since the beginning of August. Our holiday break is not only a celebration of Christmas, but also the end of a semester. I'd love to celebrate on our last day by making gifts with the sets of clear ornaments, paint & glitter.
For many of my students, presents are not something that families can afford.
Teaching my students to gift others, but also giving them a small gift will bring much joy. We will use the wrapping paper to wrap their homemade ornaments. I will use the mini stockings, activity pads and erasers to make each student a small gift and include a personalized note to each student and a coupon for an in class reward such as an extra snack, a free homework pass, or an extra computer time pass.
