Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

We are an inner-city magnet school to our district, with a medical theme. My students come from all over the city, from all different schools, cultures, and backgrounds. In spite of the many obstacles, my students achieve higher than all the neighboring high schools and have a 100% graduation rate and college acceptance rate. Most of our students select careers in the medical school. Their access to resources needed to prepare them for this path is very limited. DonorsChoose.org makes it possible for our children to have the necessary tools to succeed.

My Project

My students spend many hours planning for community events-well beyond the average school day. They come in early in the am, and stay late in the evening.

My students are provided free lunches, but breakfast is not served when they arrive, and there is no food available when they work late afternoon/evening.

These food cards will help fuel their energy and keep them focused on the task at hand.

The Petco and PetSmart gift cards will allow the students to purchase pet supplies that will be needed for the community events. The students provide free pet services for the community: wellness exams, spay/neuter, and shots.
