Our school is in Hampton, GA which is about 30 minutes south of downtown Atlanta. My students are in a Title 1 district (low income-high needs community) where support and supplies are limited. Despite challenges, my students work really hard and utilize chorus as a positive outlet. This is the first time many of my students have performed in an ensemble, but the students quickly learn music and are very talented. After many long after-school and weekend rehearsals, my chorus students received a superior rating at a large group performance evaluation. My students are always looking for ways to perform within the community and improve their musicality.
As a choral teacher of over 115 students, paper is a necessity to provide sheet music for students. With two different choirs at 60 members each, copy paper runs out pretty quickly. I have already ran out of my personal supply and I still need to print music for the spring semester. This project will allow me to have paper for the rest of this school year and next year. The students are performing more in the community and will need paper to receive new music and replace damaged copies. This project will give the students the opportunity to practice their music at home and at school.
