Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Paul McCartney wrote, “I love to hear a choir. I love the humanity to see the faces of real people devoting themselves to a piece of music. I like the teamwork. It makes me feel optimistic about the human race when I see them cooperating together."
My students aspire to great things, so they need to have access to music of excellent quality for superior performances.
My choir students are highly motivated and come from very diverse backgrounds, but their financial status does not always allow them to purchase their own music. We have a large number of students from military families, many of whom are only here for a short time. Sheet music is made available to them while they are at our school, then it is passed on to a new generation of students.
The music must be protected and filed to facilitate this process. We need to update our library to serve our students more effectively.
My Project
Choral music students study and memorize music from scores. It is important to honor all composer's intellectual property and follow copyright laws. In order to do this all students must be provided their own copy of sheet music.
Sheet music is a huge financial investment that we want to protect for the next group of choral students to access.
Today our choral music library contains over 1, 700 titles, There are many more that need to be filed, but we lack the appropriate filing boxes to make this happen.
Students in our Tri-M Honor music society help with the organization and filing process, but the filing boxes are essential to make this happen.
