Help me give my students flexible seating so they can have the freedom to choose their seating based off of their personal preference while working on their academic growth.
My classroom has a variety of students varying from special education, ones that are new to Texas, and ones that are still with the school even after the hurricane. Some of my students and our community have experienced the aftermath of the hurricane and will openly discuss the fear and heartbreak they experienced, but that has made them more determined to succeed. My classroom and school is like a big family. They have shown that their strength and love for their community and students will overcome any obstacle.
Walt Disney said, "Around here, we don't look backwards for very long, we keep moving forward opening new doors and doing new things because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." My students curiosity and love for learning opens doors to new ways of teaching and learning.
They don't dwell on past experiences, they only look forward to what is coming up next. Their learning styles and inquiries are all unique and it brings us closer as a family by learning from each other. We use our experiences, weaknesses, and strengths in our classroom to better ourselves academically and personally.
My Project
My classroom is a blended learning classroom. That means that my students take responsibility for their academic and personal growth through data tracking, reflection, and goal setting with the integration of technology. My students use their data binders throughout the day to identify what standards they need to focus on during reading and math stations. We acknowledge in class that everyone has different learning styles and that we all learn at different paces. They have the freedom to choose what they need and love to celebrate everyone's progress in class.
Flexible seating will give my class the ability to work on their academic growth comfortably.
They choose their stations based off of their academic needs, so allowing them to choose their seating will support their academic growth. If they are sitting comfortably based off of their seating preference, they will be able to focus on mastering the standard they are working on. Flexible seating will allow my students to experiment with different seating styles and see what works for them. The goal in my classroom is for them to reflect and identify what they need to be successful.
