This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a low socioeconomic area in Texas where approximately 97% of my students receive free lunch. My students experience daily challenges when they come to me from home, Hurricane Harvey being the most recent, along with other daily challenges.
Everyday my scholars walk into my math class regardless of their struggles, and they are anxious to learn something new.
It is such an amazing feeling seeing my scholars approach to learning the second they set foot in my classroom.
My Project
I am requesting alternative seating arrangements, including balance balls and comfy floor seats, for my students. I have a select hand full of students that stand up in my classroom because it is just difficult for them to sit down. These students just have to move, and that’s okay. I try to make my students as comfortable as possible so that way we can utilize all of our instructional time.
My school had a pilot of the alternative seating arrangements, and it was a huge success in my classroom!
They were able to stay focused, move, and it did not distract my teaching. It’s an amazing site to see the smile on their face while bouncing and learning at the same time.
Now the only problem is that we don’t have enough for all of our movers.
In addition, we also need a charging station for our iPads. Thank you for even considering funding this project for my kids!
