My students are creative, compassionate, and motivated. In our room students benefit from the diverse abilities, interests, and needs of their classmates. We strive to be better every day and work hard to ensure that we are positive examples for our community.
The majority of my class is performing well below grade level in math and reading.
While grade level content is challenging for them, I love their enthusiasm for learning and their motivation to improve.
Our school has a beautiful community made of students from around the city. We embrace and celebrate our students and their accomplishments.
My Project
Every year I read aloud the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Students fall in love with the characters and do a lot of self-reflection and realization as the story progresses. Students are required to complete several assignments throughout the book culminating in a school wide Kindness Campaign we help organize. Currently, students share the four copies I have purchased while completing their work. Students also are only able to hear the read aloud rather than have the ability to follow along with their own copy. It would be beneficial for students to have their own book to view while I was reading as well as to refer back to while they complete their independent and group work. This could also be helpful to English language learners and students who comprehend better with a visual.
