This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the wonderful opportunity to follow my students for the last 2 years, that means I have been with them since 1st grade! They are now entering 3rd grade and I want them to “ choose kind.” We live in the South side of Chicago, my students have to fight the streets on a daily basis as they walk to and from school. Help me teach kindness in a violent world like Chicago! My class wants to make a difference.
My Project
The book, “Wonder” will help my students understand empathy, which in return will make not only our classroom a respectful community but our neighborhood as well. At a time when the violence in Chicago is out of control, I believe that this young man’s story will inspire my students that no matter what they can always “Choose Kind.” My hope is that my students will be part of a movement to show others respect, empathy, love and kindness. It only takes one person to make a difference, their voice just needs to be heard. “ If every single person in this room made it a rule that wherever they are, whenever they can you will try and act a little kinder than necessary the world really would be a better place.” JR Palacio
