My students are students that sometimes require a little extra prompting, a little extra wait-time, restatement of directions, or redirecting. They are wonderful students that always have a smile on their face. They are curious. They love learning.
Like most students, these students have wiggles however, these students can not control their wiggles.
Their wiggles are what makes them special but their wiggles often interfere with their ability to learn what is being instructed. These students need a way to get their wiggles out in a way that does not interfere with their learning or the learning of others.
My Project
I believe getting the wiggles controlled has to happen in order for learning to take place. Flexible seating is a choice provided to allow students to work around the room comfortably and focused. If a student is uncomfortable in their seat, then they are not focused on the lesson. Students should be able to choose the seating that eliminates or reduces the obstacle of wiggles that interferes with their learning.
By choosing the seating that a student desires, they are given some control of their environment.
This control helps them feel like they have ownership of their environment and adds to their sense of self-worth both of which impact their ability to learn.
