I am beyond excited to welcome eighteen 1st graders to my room this August. My students are in dual language, which means they are learning to read in Spanish and English this year. I want to foster a love of reading in them, so they will become lifelong learners.
I hope to bolster this joy of reading with flexible seating in my classroom by giving students opportunities to form cooperative groups and have choices in their learning.
I want them to give each child the opportunity to be successful and help create a sense of excitement for learning.
This will be my 8th year teaching, and I notice each year I have students standing and writing or students sliding around in their chair. I want to give my first graders the opportunity to have choices in their seating and a sense of pride in their classroom. Not only will these different seating options improve their productivity, but it will help the classroom feel more welcoming.
I can't wait to see their faces in August when they discover these bright and comfortable seating options.
Even the most energetic of students will have the perfect spot for them in my classroom!
