Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 8th and 9th grade students are full of talent and are constantly looking for ways to express themselves musically. In addition to their scheduled hour of music, my students are in the music room before and after school to sing and get their hands on any musical instrument they can! With most of our students coming from low income households with little to no parental involvement, our students seek opportunities at school to feel like a family. The music department provides them with that opportunity!
Many of our students will be first generation college students.
We hope to provide these students with the skills necessary to thrive in this environment through teamwork, professionalism, self-assesment and reflection, technology skills and of course enhancing musical abilities which could lead to potential scholarships!
My Project
GJS Choir received a donation of used choir robes. We are hoping to complete these uniforms with stoles so our students will have a professional uniform for contest and performances. Students have the opportunity to perform for the community multiple times throughout the year.
Our goal for the Choir Program is to build confidence in our choir members and these uniforms will assist us in that goal.
The choir program has a long history of excellence and serving over 200 students in the school. We take pride in guiding our students into opportunities in the music and art fields.
