I teach 3rd grade in a low-income school of about 300 students. Every child enters my classroom with their own unique, individual story, but when they are in class they mold together to be a diverse team.
Every student makes learning come alive in our 3rd-grade classroom.
Whether it is through a hands-on approach, technology, creating, writing, or speaking they all bring knowledge into our room that makes us all better humans.
We are a culturally diverse classroom that has brought another level of talent to the playing field when it comes to creating, imagining, and inventing. Throughout our days filled with math, reading, and writing the students favorites are MakerSpace and STEAM time. Watching their learning come alive is what keeps me in the classroom as an educator.
My Project
Flexible seating in my 3rd-grade classroom has been a game-changer. A simple change in the task from teacher to students has given students more ownership in their classroom which in turn has increased student/teacher relationship and student ownership in their work.
Students who have the opportunity to have a choice and voice in their learning are students who are going to be successful leaders in learning.
In our classroom with flexible seating, students are given the opportunity to choose a work station that works best for them at any given moment. This allows the students the opportunity to grow in their own learning with their own voice.
