This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Middle school is a challenging time, and I want to ensure that my kiddos learn not only how to read and write, but to also think critically about all the choices they're going to have to make in life.

My students come from a low-income community where making a "good" choice or making a "bad" choice can mean the difference between improving their life situation or staying stagnant.

I have AMAZING kids who have dealt with various amounts of trauma in their lives, but they are resilient and they strive to better themselves and the circumstances they've been given.

My Project

My students are required to read a large amount of non-fiction writing. One of the best ways to keep their interest is by exposing them to articles that are relevant to their lives. Choices magazine contains articles that the students will not only find interesting but also give them an opportunity to think critically about important issues that affect their everyday lives.

Empowering children to make positive, real-world decisions is one of the most important skills we can teach.

My hope is, in addition to improved reading and writing skills, my students will leave my class as a better version of themselves.
