My students need art supplies - people colored crayons and a help-yourself supply center, as well as toys - like a train set and magna-tiles - for choice time.
A day in our classroom is filled with many different parts that make it FUN! We sing songs, dance, we learn counting and numbers, the alphabet and letter sounds, we are learning to read and write, and after long days of learning these little ones need a chance to PLAY!
Students come into my classroom from many different backgrounds.
Some students have been to preschool, TK, daycare, while others this is their first experience leaving their homes for such an extended time. My students are eager to learn and have fun!
My Project
These materials will be used on a daily basis. When I started in this classroom last year there was very little in regards to supplies and choice time toys. I have been able to get more supplies for students, and now I feel that these kids deserve fun things to play with at the end of the day after a long day of learning. A very popular choice time activity is arts and crafts - they will use anything around to make something creative, so I have asked for a supply center so that students have easy access to supplies during choice time. Students love drawing and in kindergarten we focus on learning how to draw people - therefore people colored crayons (who knew how important these could be?!) are always requested. Lastly, my boys will spend every moment that they can building Legos, so I would like to have more options for them - a nice, new train set and Magna-tiles will certainly be something they will gravitate towards!
These items will encourage students to work even harder throughout the day so that they can participate in choice time and have that time to have free play.
Free play is very important for students this age - the interactions and conversations that come during this time are so important.
