Chirp, Chirp...1st Graders Hatching Into Life Cycle Exploration!
My students need hands-on chick life cycle exploration kits, nonfiction texts and first grade friendly materials to hatch new life into our classroom this year.
My new class of first graders and I are eager about our new school year. We pride ourselves in showing great character in and out of our classroom. We are Jr. Panthers! Our 'Just Be Jersey' theme is seen in our district and within the community loud and proud! We have students from smaller outlying towns that come to our building for Pre-K through 1st grade. We are a Jr. Panther team, and it takes that teamwork to keep our classroom engaging and enthusiastic. To keep the momentum strong in our classroom I am going to have a unit on chick development and growth. We have some of the tools and materials needed for the project, but we are still in need of a bit more to make this a success in our classroom this year.
My Project
My students will be able to use the chick life cycle exploration kits to learn in a hands-on environment. They will be able to make connections to texts we read aloud or together in the classroom. My students will be able to share knowledge of what they are learning about the chicks throughout the changes in the life cycle, journals and daily interactions in the classroom using our microscope. Most importantly, we will be able to experience compassion and a love for these chicks in our own classroom together. We work as a team to create a “classroom family” and this would help us to further that mission! Our character education is evident in our classroom each day. Being caring, kind and respectful are just a few of the traits that align with this opportunity to help our first graders grow emotionally too!
