This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Hi. I teach an interdisciplinary math and science class to 2nd and 3rd graders. We raised money through DonorsChoose.org to fund our gardening program last year and we love it.
My students love to produce.
They create new objects from recyclable pieces. They plant seeds and watching them become plants. They love building new circuits paths and discovering new components. They are always asking questions like "What happens next?" "Why didn't our prediction happen?" and "What could we try next?"
My Project
Lately my 2nd and 3rd grade students have shown interest in programming. We have acquired several robotic systems that my students are exploring. Most of these robots have apps where many more options are available if you use the apps. Our ipads are 10 years old and do not support these apps.
Coding and robotics are essential for today's classroom because it moves the student from consuming (gaming) to producing (creating and writing the code for a game).
It is the perfect application for teaching students to record their thinking, evaluate, reflect and reimagine. Students have a very high interest in these hand on learning activities that promote high level problem solving in team settings. My students need an iPad to make this happen.
DonorsChoose is the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
As a teacher-founded nonprofit, we're trusted by thousands of teachers and supporters across the country. This classroom request for funding was created by Ms. Ernsthausen and reviewed by the DonorsChoose team.
