Chinese New Year Activities - Culture Experience in American Classrooms

Help me give my students materials so that they can experience authentic activities for Chinese New Year! Items involved in this activity are red calligraphy papers, inks, red envelopes, etc.

My Students

We have over 300 students in our school's Chinese DLI program and our program is 1-9. Our students are very talented and passionate about learning Chinese and our teachers work very hard to bring authentic materials/culture-related activities into each classroom.

Chinese New Year Activity.

Feb. 1st is Chinese New Year, which is also known as the Chinese Spring Festival. This year is a Tiger year. As a team, we teachers would like to have our students experience this festival by doing some cultural activities in classes, such as Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, crafts, sending red envelopes, etc.

My Project

In the past year, due to Covid, students were not able to experience cultural activities in person at school. So this school year, with the Chinese New Year just around the corner, our Chinese team is planning on having some activities in classes for Chinese DLI students to celebrate this festival. Learning the culture is a big part of learning a language, and the best way to learn the culture is to experience and explore it in person! Students will write Chinese calligraphy with brushes on red paper, receive red envelopes and candies, watch videos, make crafts, learn songs, and so on.
