My Students
My students have unlimited curiosity and imagination, and are always working to learn social skills as well as academic skills. Social emotional learning is key, and having a classroom pet to love and nurture will help to gain empathy and learn to be calm and care for living things.
My school acts as a "hub" and provides needed resources to the community through a partnership with the YMCA.
I am the Science Support teacher in a newly created STEM lab. I am working with students to learn with Project-Based Inquiry Science. I am lucky enough to see every student in my building, and I love what I do. This project will allow me to adopt a chinchilla and have the needed supplies to care for it properly in the classroom. I have a cage that I purchased, and need some more things prior to adopting and bringing our new classroom friend to school.
My Project
The crested geckos and yellow-belly slider I have in my STEM lab are favorites of my students. We learn to care for them, study habitats and ecosystems of these animals, and they help us learn compassion for living things.
Adopting a chinchilla would allow my students to learn small animal care for a mammal, and have a friend to read to, talk to, and just look forward to coming to school to see.
I have purchased a cage and some accessories already, and have a contact at a local career tech school to adopt the chinchilla from. Will you help me get the rest of the needed supplies so I can make this dream a reality?
