These four and five-year-old pre-kindergarten students have an extensive range of backgrounds. Some of my students are English language learners. All students, including those with special needs, thrive from hands-on, engaging experiences. These interactive experiences give all students purposeful, memorable learning experiences. Students learn through active play! Keeping students up and engaged is critical. I yearn for all my students to take away a genuine love for learning and a deep understanding of academic goals and skills.
My Project
Students in Pre-K have special needs for social-emotional wellness. Many students have not yet developed critical skills to manage emotions. Even with well-planned and developmentally appropriate lessons, students will struggle to regulate emotions. Therefore, these materials in this project will allow students to take advantage of our calm down area to practice some strategies to calm down.
These materials, including the feelings mirrors and "A Little Spot of Emotion" set, will help children recognize emotions and their own feelings.
The chimes are an excellent way to re-direct attention in a gentle and calming way. The hanging light and stars will utilize a strategy from Ruby Payne to help students look up when they are in a "moment." These materials will provide students with tools to help them practice strategies to build their social-emotional regulation toolbox.
