My Students

We are panthers, hear us roar. We consist of 400 students, grades kindergarten through fifth grade. We are nestled in the pine covered hills of Rapid City, South Dakota, near Mount Rushmore. Over the river (if it's raining) or ice skating pond (if it's snowing), we make a twice weekly trek from the main building to our remote classroom. Twenty-four of us (all amazing of course) show up twice a week to perform, create and respond to music. Confidentially, we do love to improvise!!!!

My Project

I currently have one set of tone chimes in my classroom with only ten chimes; in order to use them as a classroom activity I need to expand the number. This would give me enough individual chimes to allow use with all students in one room. I begin scale building at the lower grades with the use of another classroom instrument. These tone chimes would be an effective extension for my older students since tone chimes can be used by an instrumental ensemble, or with voices or by special needs students.

Your donation will accommodate the practice of musical accompaniment, which aligns with our curriculum and national music standards which ask us to perform music, alone or with others, using expression, technical accuracy and appropriate interpretation.

Students will be encouraged to perform with the expressive qualities of dynamics, tempo, timbre, and articulation. Just imagine how much these little panthers will enjoy this opportunity.
