My students need bean bag chairs, Legos, and calming oils to help them cool off with sensory breaks.

Every child is gifted. They just unwrap their packages at different times." ~Unknown Author. In our middle school high functioning autism classroom, our students have found a place where they belong so that they may begin to unwrap their gifts to show the world.
I teach in a middle school high- functioning autism classroom.
All of my students are diagnosed with autism, though they are extremely high functioning. I currently am teaching 10 students, varying in age and grade levels. This is a brand-new class, as it has only been in existence for a little over 2 months; however, even in this short period of time I am in awe of my students' growth in both academics and in their comfort in their own skin. School finally makes sense to them and they finally have a place to belong. My students have a great sense of humor, and are extremely hard-working. All of my students are extremely intelligent, though they have fallen behind in many academic areas. We work hard every day to fill these gaps, but they also need constant sensory breaks to allow them to continue this focus.
My students struggle with basic social skills that most of their peers don't even realize they are using on a daily basis. Anger management is one of the biggest struggles for them, and we work hard every day to help control our emotions. However, when they have moments where they cannot control their anger they need a safe place to go to cool down. Since our classroom is brand-new, we currently do not have much to offer. With the bean bag chairs and calming oils, my students will have a safe place to go to calm themselves down. Furthermore, they can use these bean bag chairs for their sensory breaks to allow their brains to take a break so that they can continue to focus and work hard. The Legos will not only provide a great sensory break activity, but will also be incorporated into the math and science curriculum in many ways. For instance, building molecules and compounds in science or use as math manipulatives for basic math facts as we strive to plug those gaps.
These donations will make this great classroom even greater.
My students learn in different ways, one of which being that they need sensory breaks to allow for continued focus. This donation to our classroom will allow my students to have a comfortable place to have their sensory breaks. Also, the bean bag chairs will offer a safer alternative for my students to chill out when they are struggling to control their anger. Please help my students continue to gain confidence in who they are!
