Our chemistry class needs your help. I teach high school chemistry and one of the great things about the class is the exciting labs that we perform every week. Many of our labs require ice and recently our ice maker broke and we need a replacement.
My students are amazing for so many reasons.
Our school is in a working class neighborhood in New Jersey and my kids make do with very little. I am continually surprised at the reaction the students have when they receive the smallest of treats. Our school does not have some of the frills of more fortunate areas, but we find creative ways to provide an exciting environment for the children. In many cases these will be the best four years of their lives since most of our kids go on to two year community colleges while working part time jobs for spending money.
Every day I go into school trying to find a way to make an impact on their lives.
My Project
The kids love our chemistry class because they see and experience things that they have never experienced before. The explosions are a big hit with demos like the whoosh bottle and gummy bear sacrifice being two of the better ones.
But a large number of our experiments require ice. Our ice maker broke and we had to make do without one the 2nd half of the school year. In order to complete our labs I had to stop at the convenience store on the way to school to pick up 3-4 bags of ice.
It would be awesome if we could replace our ice maker so that I could devote more of my time to value added activities.
I love my students and I spend hours of my spare time thinking up ways to make their experience in our chemistry class more fulfilling.
You can help me by providing some equipment that will truly make a lasting impression on young minds. I guarantee that the kids will always remember the lab where we turn ordinary milk into ice cream. Your help can make this a reality.
Thanks so much.
