Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." I agree with his quote. Once children find a book that captures their imagination they begin to develop a deeper love for reading.
My students are a wonderful bunch who are eager to learn and put forth great effort in class with the resources we currently have.
I work with a large culturally and linguistically diverse group of learners which includes kindergarten, first, and second grade levels. I work with students who have autism, students with specific learning disabilities, and speech-language impairments. My students attend an elementary school where close to 70% of our students are English Language Learners and 90% of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
My Project
My students will have a chiller of time listening to me read these books during our read aloud. The American Chillers are a series of books written by author Johnathan Rand. Each book takes place in a particular state and there is always something brewing in each book. The author has written about 39 states so far and I cannot wait to collect all 50 books from all 50 states. These books will make my students imagination run wild, while at the same time they will also learn about each state. The books include monsters, ogres, ninjas, iguanas, vampires, Komodo dragons, and werewolves. This is just the right combination to capture my students interest in reading.
