My classroom is one of two Title I pre-k classrooms at a low income, low performing school. Many of our students have not traveled out of our county or even our state. Our goal is to provide a rich environment of classroom of materials and experiences to help students build the prior knowledge that many of our students need to learn to make connections to the world we live in.
For many of our students and families, this is the first "real learning experience" outside of the home.
Therefore, one of our biggest goals is teaching social skills and communication skills for basic problem solving and getting wants and needs met. Coming from a transient, military town, we receive a lot of students from places from all over the world. We work to take advantage of sharing the likes and differences to build a sense of family or community within our classroom.
My Project
Preschool children learn through strategic play that help them to learn a variety of skills. My children need a Number Puzzle to help them identify numbers and understand quantity. My children need a Wooden See Saw Balance to help them work together to solve problems and understand weights. My children would be excited to have a variety of Building Pipe Blocks to be creative and to develop fine motor skills. My children need Magnetic materials to add to the science center, giving them a variety of materials to work with. My children need the Shape Peg Board to help them to sort by multiple attributes. My children would love practicing writing and drawing using Doodle Boards. My children need more Cardboard Blocks to build. My children need Sensory Bottles and Sand Timers to learn cause and effect, as well as calming tools.
