This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to school each and every day ready to shine! Although many of them have special challenges, they persevere and overcome.
Children with special needs can reach incredible heights with the right combination of care, compassion, and creativity.
My goal is to create the best environment to provide each child with the opportunity to grow and learn.
Funding projects through DonorsChoose.org is a way to acquire the materials necessary to support these inspiring students to reach for the stars!
My Project
Adding books like "Andy and His Yellow Frisbee" or "Susan Laughs" to my classroom collection will be a wonderful step forward in helping my children appreciate all the members of our learning community. Chris O'Shea writes "At some point your kid will become curious about people who look and act different than them. And when confronted with this awkward curiosity, you may grasp for ways to talk about why Suzy came to school with a chair that has cool wheels on it. That’s where these books come in. Each feature characters living with physical or mental disabilities and teaches kindness and perseverance.
All while making it clear that folks affected by disabilities are just people like everyone else, except, they get cool wheels."
