Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have taught in the same elementary school for the past 19 years. It contains an incredible community of staff, families, and students. The children who enter my classroom each day are truly amazing. They are kind, resilient, and fun-loving.
While some of my students have a solid family structure, others face circumstances outside of school that are heartbreaking.
Still, they all come to school willing to trust, eager to form positive relationships, and ready to learn. Their strength of character is inspiring.
My Project
Throughout my entire career, I have focused on creating a classroom environment in which students feel safe and cared for. I consistently look for ways to expand my knowledge in this area in order to ensure that my students' needs are met. Several years ago, I earned my Masters Degree in Management in a Quality Classroom. This program helped me to fully understand the importance and impact of relationships in the classroom. The Responsive Classroom approach is the perfect next step in my learning.
Attending this professional development will equip me so I can cultivate a positive, healthy learning environment where students thrive as they build both their social-emotional and academic skills.
Through this approach, I will be able to assist my students in gaining life-long skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, and independence. I will have a greater understanding of how to plan lessons that are engaging, relevant, and rigorous. My students will be empowered to persevere through difficulties, today and in the future.
