My students are eager eight and nine-year-old children! They come to school with a willingness to learn and discover the world around them. They are always excited to find out new things and go on new adventures in learning without ever leaving the classroom!
The children I teach are busy kids thirsting for knowledge and enriching experiences.
They all come from very diverse backgrounds and different socioeconomic situations. With that being said, they all want to excel at school and love to learn! They love all of the adventures we take in our classroom.
These materials will be used to foster a unit involving financial literacy in children. The children will be tasked with coming up with a product completely created out of paper that they can manufacture and sell to their peers. They will have to create a prototype, test the market for interest by polling their peers, and even make sure the market is not flooded with similar products.
Bringing the process of selling and buying to a level children understand helps promote more responsible consumers.
Children will be "earning" play money for their tasks at school in order to buy other people's products. After the products are created, children will then set up a shop. These shops will include a slogan, and storefront, as well as price point information. The culmination of this project will be children getting to shop from their peers and have their peers shop from them. Children will also have the opportunity to reflect on what they could have done better.
