My Students

Our students are fantastic! They come from a variety of backgrounds which makes the classroom a very diverse environment. The school is in an urban setting where we have many ELL students. There are over 700 preK-6th grade students at our school. Many of them do not have access to healthy meals, so the school runs a food pantry for students to take food home over the weekend.

These students want to do well, but many lack the tools needed in order to succeed.

My Project

We need a whole class set of the book, Children of the Dust Bowl for Reader's Workshop. Each student needs a copy to follow along and to also use for completing reading work. Having their own copy, students are also able to work with the text at their own pace.

I have two classes of over 20 students each, so these books will get used a ton; we need to have enough copies for a class so they can last for years to come!

Choosing books that I know my students will love is the easy part; it's being able to buy them all that is the challenge!
