Help me give my students books for guided reading. This will allow the first grade teachers to pull groups of kids at the same time, giving the kids the chance to read a text together.
I love that my students have a sense of wonder, about everything around them. I love that each day they come asking questions just as first graders do! My classroom of 21 kids is a mixture of abilities and interests. I try to give multiple pathways for learning in everything I do. Since August I have continued to build a sense of family in our room. I call it our First Grade family. Some of my students are learning to read while some of their classmates are starting to analyze a text. Yes, they are first graders. It is truly amazing.
The District that I work in celebrates that "all means all" so inclusion makes our classroom a richer environment for all!
During writing you would hear soft music planning, during Science you would hear lots of questions and witness inquiry learning taking place! It's such an exciting time of day! We have mystery readers that come in frequently to spark that love of reading. I love to embrace new and different ideas. Last week we tried our first Breakout EDU, and the kids LOVED IT!
My Project
I want to create a book room in my school with various titles so that teachers can implement guided reading. My dream is to have a huge room with books of all levels and all genres. I started small last month and will continue to grow the dream over time. These titles are picked with my current first graders in mind. Some of them are readers and some will be readers soon! Having multiple copies of a book will allow kids to read together so that they can learn from one another.
Teaching the love of reading is my ultimate goal!
To teach a child to read is a gift, but to cultivate their love for reading takes grace... and having lots of different books to pick from opens their world!
