I have a wonderful group of eager second grade learners this year. Our Kindergarten through 8th grade school in rural California has been named a Title I Gold Ribbon Model School and has received the Title 1 Academic Achievement Award from the California Department of Education. We are very proud of the accomplishments of our students!
The boys and girls in my class are enthusiastic and engaged learners!
Although some of their families do not have many books at home, in our classroom they have an abundance of age-appropriate fiction and non-fiction books from which to choose.
These children come from diverse backgrounds and life experiences. They bring imagination, dreams, and talents that are uniquely their own to school each day. I see the future in their eyes!
My Project
Primary classrooms are very busy places! Second graders and their teachers are "on the go" from the beginning bell to dismissal. We know that art is important in expanding creativity and self- expression. It is also a valuable learning pathway in all areas of the curriculum for many children. But time and space constraints often make it difficult for a teacher to plan a painting project.
If a teacher wants to provide a painting experience for her students, the supplies must be easy to set up and clean up.
Tempera blocks make painting and clean up simple enough for children to use all by themselves! They just wet their brush and stroke the solid block of colored tempera that they wish to use. There is no paint to mix, fix, spill, or containers to wash afterwards! Children rinse the brush, and cleanup is done!
The wall-mounted drying rack makes storing wet projects convenient without using lots of space, and children can use it all by themselves. Painting with these supplies becomes easy! When teachers include an art element in science, social studies, and language arts lessons and projects, motivation soars because children love to paint!
