Children Learn to Cope With Anger Using Art/Coloring Books!
Help me give my students a paper shredder to keep information about their life confidential. The stress balls, coloring books and gel pens help students' de-stress and relax. The pencil sharpener will keep them coloring with color pencils.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come into the classroom full of anger and frustration and they're not sure how to cope with their emotions. Many of my students live in poverty stricken neighborhoods, or in foster homes. Some students live in a single parent household or their parents have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet, causing them to feel anger and possibly abandonment. Whatever the case, these students just want to be loved!
I want my students to know that I am here to help them understand their emotions and to assure them that they can overcome their fears and learn ways to manage their feelings in a positive way.
Most people did not have opportunities like this growing up. Seeing my students with such anger at such a young age has inspired me to incorporate lessons about social emotional behaviors and mindfulness in my classroom. Mindfulness permeates every culture in the world and is therefore a perfect place to introduce students to this idea of learning to cope with their emotions.
My Project
The products I have requested will help my students de-escalate their anger. The use of coloring books will help the students to sit and focus on their breathing and will also help them to de-stress by focusing on their breathing. Some students like holding stress balls because it helps them with their anxiety. Once the students are calm, I will be able to talk to them about their feelings. Having the items I have requested at hand, will enable my students to relax and reflect on their anger. This will help me to teach my students coping skills such as breathing techniques and mindfulness meditation activities. Also, I have requested laminating sheets to protect their artwork and display them in the class. The paper shredder will be used to destroy their confidential information and protect the students identity. The students love being in control of their own work. I requested gel pens for their use to color and give them some variety. The pencil sharpener is needed to sharpen the color pencils so the students can continue to color. Thank you so much.
