Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is committed to creating globally aware students through providing a cognitively demanding curriculum, high quality instruction, and a sense of civic and ethical responsibility in all students. Both the staff and students are highly dedicated and our learning is centered around this goal.

In our classroom we work to build a sense of community and spread kindness each and every day.

Students bring with them a variety of experiences, languages, and knowledge which makes our classroom a wonderfully diverse and exciting place or all.

My Project

These books will be used to teach the justice-based social studies curriculum, Children Discovering Justice. Students will engage in discussions around key questions, such as “What are rules?”, “Who makes them?”, and “How do people change unfair rules?”.

The curriculum encourages students to be empathetic community members and critical thinkers about fairness.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about voting, peaceful protests, and other forms of civic responsibility. During this election year, this is more important then ever.

However, due to remote learning social studies and civics education has been put on the back burner while students focus on reading and math. This literacy-focused curriculum allows me to teach these important topics during my reading and writing blocks, saving valuable instruction time and ensuring my students get a well rounded education.
