Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The challenge my students face is not getting the proper help, instructions and/or directions from home or outside the classroom. They are capable but need to be reinforced about learning concepts. My students need every opportunity to explore with world and things that surround their environment.
My students are the best.
Many have great, fun and loving personalities most very eager to learn. However, some to most of my students live very poorly. Their parents work two jobs to support them while leaving them with grandparents or babysitters. My job is located in south Houston where most of my student live. Many take the school bus and are on reduced lunch. Some of my students may have some type of learning disability and they may be on medication. The day can become very difficult for the student with parents forgot to administer the medicine.
My Project
The resources I am requesting will help my students with increasing their math skills, working cooperatively with others and staying organized. Many students need to have hands-on experiences to understand the math concepts; also some students need to visually see it in different ways to comprehend it. I will be able to model to the students how the skill(S) can be used with manipulatives and with each other. My students will have a better insight of the curriculum being taught through hands-on learning.
The items that I am requesting are one-to-one math counting boards, counting cookies game, pattern partner games, number partner games, giant magnetic numbers, hands on math trays, and peg number boards. We do a lot cooperative work with glue and paint; I am also requesting 2 gallons of glue and several different color of paint. I like organization and I am modeling to the students how to manage and stay organized with their school things. I ordered organized desk trays for each group.
I worked on a Mission trip this past summer in Kenya, Africa.
The mission was medical, however we were able to visit and teach in some of the schools. I was able to teach kindergarten in the city of Mumasia and viewing what the school did not have made we realized that my students (in the states) are the future leaders who will one day have the same passion to work and help individuals around the world. My job is to get my students ready academically to be able to take on such a Mission.
