If you could look into my classroom right now you'd see students reading a variety of middle grade and young adult novels. They love reading and gobble up books with enthusiasm. My students live in the surrounding towns to our school. We are a charter school, which means that parents have enrolled in our school because they are looking for something different than the neighborhood school provides.
My students are hungry for books and know that my classroom is a place to find excellent books.
Students of all ages come to my room to borrow books from me, but my best readers are my middle school students. Some students ride the bus for over an hour to and from school. I've created many life-long readers by simply helping them find a book to read on the bus.
Lately, my older students have been asking to borrow the picture books to read to the younger students on the bus. I love that they are sharing their love for reading, and helping to build our reading community
My Project
We celebrate books at our school! As a middle school class we will be sharing our love for books by reading to and with the younger grades. We will also be doing our own evaluation and seeing whether or not we believe these books are a good fit for younger readers.
We think that the Children and Teen Book Choice nominees are great books and want to share those books.
Help us purchase several copies of the books so that we can read them as a full class rather than taking turns. We feel like the multiple copies will be more easily shared.
