Help me give my students snacks for hungry bellies, underwear for accidents, hoodies for cold bodies on rainy days and warm stuffed animals to chase away the blues.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Ours is a small school nestled in a residential neighborhood. Many of our students do not live in the school neighborhood. They come from all across the city and travel over 30 minutes or more to get to the school. They arrive as early as 7:00am and leave as late 6:30pm. Our students smile, laugh, cry and give the best hugs. They come to school with many basic needs are unfulfilled and that many take for granted. And as a result and especially as the weather gets cold and rainy, their attendance at school drops significantly. Our goal at the school is ensure that ALL students THRIVE. We want them to continue to come to school to learn, laugh and grow.
My Project
To THRIVE, students need their basic needs met. These items will help to keep smiles on the faces of hungry, cold and sometimes sad students; bellies will be full and bodies warm.
Our students need hooded sweatshirts to keep warm on cold, rainy days; some need a friend to hug when they are sad or afraid, a constant companion; dry underwear when accidents happen; snacks when they arrive to school late and miss breakfast or go home on long weekends to empty cupboards.
We sometimes get donations though not consistently, so these items would be a great help. Children can't learn if their bellies are empty and their bodies are cold.
