Chicks in Kindergarten!

My Students

Kindergarten is a special place. They come with such a wide range of background knowledge and capabilities. With such demanding curriculum and so much time spent doing practice sheets and studying, the excitement on student faces, from hands-on experiences, is what always makes all the prep work worthwhile.

My Project

Every year, we hatch eggs in our grade level giving the students an up close and personal view to all the growth and changes that happen when chicks hatch during the spring. Not only is it a fun and unique experience, it is also educational and a great way to incorporate science into our curriculum.

Every year we have to rent cheap incubators that don't always give us the highest success rate.

They are inconsistent and we have to manually turn the eggs themselves, which can be tough on the weekends or it simply doesn't happen at all. With the auto-turner and other features of this incubator, we should have a higher success rate and will have the ability to see what is happening INSIDE the egg as they grow. Our hope is with these incubators, our kinders, this year and the many kinders in the years to come, will continue to have a meaningful experience that teaches them about the lifecycle of a chicken which in turn helps them learn to value nature even more.
