Do you remember hating everything about high school? The drama, the boring textbooks, the dull classes, and not knowing what you wanted to do with your life? This book will allow students to find themselves through literature and true stories of self-fulfillment.
My students are mainly freshmen and sophomores in an urban high school.
Just like every other school, funding has been cut, class sizes are growing, and nearly 80% of my students are on free and reduced lunch. However, there is one thing that hasn't ceased; the love of learning.
I hope to inspire my students on a daily basis with the help of the Chicken Soup series. As a teen many years ago, I relied on these books for daily inspiration to be a better person. Reading and having a positive attitude are two attributes that my students can greatly benefit from. This book will help my students to enjoy reading, gain an appreciation of having a positive attitude, and inspire them to make a difference in their everyday life.

My Project
I asked my students, "How many of you have ever had a student or teacher tell you that you weren't good enough?" Nearly everyone raises their hand. Please, help me change this!
I teach 160 students each semester, and I love incorporating life lessons into my world history and current issues classes. This book, comprised of short stories, would be a great discussion starter and allow my students to see that, yes, even in their teens, the glass is always half full. Whether we discuss culture, war, religion, or individual differences, my students will start to realize that they choose their attitudes on a daily basis. My students can start to form their own philosophies with the help of these true stories.
Today, my fortune cookies read, "would you be happy if you died with what you left unfinished?" My answer is "NO!" I need to help my students view the world with optimism, love, and hope on a daily basis. With your help, I can turn a traditional history lesson into a life lesson.
This book will help change my students' lives, and I truly believe that.
High School can be very difficult, but my social studies class will be a beacon of learning, reading, and discussing important issues that pertain to their lives and history.
