Ms. Haight from Dayton OH is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need hands on materials, like letter sound tubs, letter stamps and a letter sorting kit, to facilitate their learning of the alphabet and the letter sounds.

"A told B and B told C, I'll meet you at the top of the coconut tree." I want my students to climb to the top of the alphabet tree by mastering the alphabet and the letter sounds. For that to happen, we need materials beyond worksheets and pencils. We need fun and exciting manipulatives to use!
I have 24 kindergarten cuties in an inner city charter school in Ohio.
They are excited and energetic and ready to learn and become future leaders of tomorrow. Our school is 100% free and reduced lunch and breakfast, and often times, our families struggle to meet the daily needs of the students, let alone the extra costs to further their education. As a charter school, our budget for materials is small, and in an attempt to make the most of our money, materials are purchased that can be used across grades. My students don't NEED these materials, but I can only imagine the way their faces would light up if they had the chance to learn through play with these manipulatives. Not to mention the way their learning would expand exponentially.
Can you imagine being 5 years old and going into a brightly colored classroom and seeing all kinds of hands-on centers with fun "toys" that you got to explore and touch? Who wouldn't be excited to work, play and learn? These materials will provide endless opportunities to scaffold students' learning all throughout the year, both in whole group, small group and individualized education plans. Students will have opportunities to use these materials in center work and as they master one skill related to the materials, they will move into learning a new one! They will recognize letters, identify sounds, match letters and sounds, create words and sentences and so much more!
I have seen the faces of these children light up over the gift of a simple book.
I have watched their excitement and exuberance over a bag of brand new sharp crayons. These materials will be used the entire year and for years to come with future students. To provide my students with these "extra" materials would simply melt my heart and support my dream of giving these children every single opportunity the educational world has to offer.
