My students come to school eager and ready to learn. I love that about them. As the school counselor, I work in whole classrooms, small groups and one-on-one situations with students every single day. My kids are engaged in the lessons that are presented to them and ask great questions. They love hands-on activities and learn more when they can take part in the lesson.
My students are naturally interested in a multicultural learning experience because of the diversity of our student body and shown through every family's interest in attending a world language academy.
I am lucky enough to have close to 600 kids who challenge me daily. Together we learn about each other, our school community, and how we fit into this global society.
As anyone who has lived in Chicago, has visited Chicago between the months of October and April, or has ever heard anything about national weather knows, Chicago winter is BRUTAL! Not only is it cold, but it is windy, filled with various forms of precipitation, and can be surprisingly lengthy.
My students often come to school ill prepared for the harsh sub-zero temperatures, frigid winds, and freezing sleet.
Keeping their fingers, toes, heads and faces warm and toasty will allow them the opportunity to worry less about their survival needs and more about their academic ones. As an added bonus, our old building can often be drafty, and although bulky winter coats are hard to wear while sitting at a small desk, cold weather accessories are great!
